Hello, I am Vince Rogers with Vince Rogers and Associates, and we're going to talk about how using a project management information system can give you a competitive advantage. A project management information system takes all the guesswork out of completing a project by giving you an automated system that allows you to keep track of all your costs and deliverables of a project. Before your organization purchases a project management system, there's some essential things you need to consider. First and most importantly is the training of your employees to use the system as well as whether it's cost effective to purchase this system and whether it's possible to integrate the project management information system with your other existing systems. Purchasing a project management information system that doesn't integrate with your existing systems can be catastrophic. Lastly, you need to consider the cost effectiveness of training the employees who will be working on the system.   • 4. In order to give your organization a competitive advantage in the project management process,you may want to consider using a Project Management Information Systems or (PMIS)
  • 5. Project Management Information Systemshelp organizations to plan, execute, and close each phase of the project management process They insure that all of the appropriate steps are being taken at each project phase and that each project task is completed properly
  • 6. A Project Management Information System is defined as“An electronic information system that consists of the tools and techniques used to gather, integrate, and disseminate the outputs of project management processes It is used to support all aspects of the project from initiating through closing, and can include both manual and automated systems”
  • 7. Organizations that don’t use such systems can certainly besuccessful at completing projects, but by using a PMIS you have a better chance of making sure that the Scope, Cost and Time goals of the project are met
  • 8. For smaller projects orprojects that involve routine processes that your organization has a lot ofexperience with, a PMIS may not be necessary
  • 9. However for large projects,very important projects or projects where you don’t have a lot of experience using a PMIS may be crucial
  • 10. Before purchasing a PMIS you must take into consideration: Integration with your existing hardware and software, Training for those people in your organization who will be using this new tool Whether making such an investment is cost effective for your organization
