Hello, I'm Vince Rogers with Vince Rogers and Associates. We're going to talk a little bit about what do marketers need to know to reach their target market. Essentially there are two marketing approaches, there's mass marketing which involves a company marketing their product to the widest number of people we possibly can. Then we have target marketing which means you aim your message at a specific target audience. So, the first step in identifying a target audience is to create a profile of your ideal customer. Let's say, for instance, you were marketing boxing gloves. Now the in user is going to be the boxer but the target audience for your boxing marketing program may not be the boxer himself. The gloves may be purchased by amateur athletic associations, gyms, recreation centers, high schools, colleges. So you need to remember that the target audience is that segment of the target market which is most likely to buy the most units of your product. Identifying your target audience allows you to select the right messages, deliver it to the right channel at the right time for the greatest marketing impact. I'm Vince Rogers, and that's what marketers need to know to reach their target audience.
